At a moment where we are witnessing Europe burning, consecutive deadly heatwaves in the U.S. and increasing drilling of fossil fuels under the current adminstration, now is NOT the time for corporations to be removing the role of the chief sustainability officer. This trend is deeply troubling. *193 US companies had chief sustainability officer roles as of July 1, down from 216 last year. *The trend is being driven by companies deciding not to fill vacant CSO positions. *Companies are also merging sustainability roles — and the function more broadly — into other areas of their businesses.

When I was growing up, I would often ask my parents why we didn’t have the beautiful furniture or houses that my friends’ families owned. It never failed, my mom and dad would respond - the little extra money we had - we spent on experiences and travel. Of course, as a child, it didn’t make much sense, but now all these years later, I’m so grateful for them instilling that sense of adventure, connection, and curiosity in my bones. As I’ve aged, I’ve stepped up my efforts to say yes to those BIG invitations and so thankful that my beloved friends are taking the time to celebrate life’s milesto
