The roast
Richard, you claim to be a builder with three exits, but your entire career trajectory suggests your real talent is just finding new ways to avoid ever having to actually work for someone else. You say you’re here to share insights on leadership, but with 29 posts in a month, you're clearly just the guy who talks about the gym more than he actually lifts.
About Richard
I’m a builder at heart, with five startups and three exits under my belt. My passion lies at the intersection of product, marketing, sales, and data - so you’ll often hear me talking about product marketing. My entrepreneurial journey has taught me the value of resilience, innovation, and questioning the crowd rather than following it. Most importantly, it’s shown me the power of community. 👉 Why I share on LinkedIn: I believe in collective learning: I want to provide tried and tested insights to help you navigate your career, whether you're a founder, marketer, or looking to learn something new. 👉 What I talk about: 1️⃣ Building bootstrapped companies Why go-to-market efficiencies are a non-negotiable 2️⃣ How to spot and nurture talent Strategies for building high-performing and efficient teams 3️⃣ Product marketing - why won’t I shut up about it? How effective product marketing drives business success. 4️⃣ Operational excellence + a great culture. It is possible. The nuts and bolts of business operations and fostering a winning culture. 5️⃣ What does leadership really mean? The changing expectations of what it means to be a “boss.” Go ahead and hit the follow button, and I’ll see you around!

Own your flaws. 10/10 Product Marketing 😂 Have you ever seen a bad case study? Where a brand doesn't look amazing? Probably not... What about a bad comparison page? I didn't think so... It usually looks like Our competitor ❌ Nope ❌ Nah ❌ Much worse vs Our product ✅ Genius ✅ Mind blowing ✅ Powered by better special AI IYKYK ;) Friendly reminder: When you proactively own your flaws? YOU control the narrative on them. You get to shape the story. But you need to be honest. One of my favorite ways to do this? Pick ONE angle for your comparison pages. Don't go deep try

Every marketer I know is carrying a backlog of good ideas they'll never get to. 👉 The nurture flow for the leads who ghosted after the demo. 👉 The win-back for the accounts that went quiet. 👉 The competitor teardown sales keeps asking for. Not enough hands. Not enough hours. For years the only answers were "hire more" or "do less." Neither felt great. So when Breakout asked me to try Spoc, I gave it the thing that's been sat in my backlog the longest: the nurture sequence for inbound leads who never book the call. So I ran it. Here’s what happened: I typed the play in plain English

Slack should 100% fund this ad 😂 I'm actually serious. Could you picture this as a local ad during the world cup right now? They could make a great satirical riff on this. Obviously you'd have to be very clear that it's satire so that you don't get sued by Microsoft haha. The concept is hilarious and would get traction though imo. Let's rewind for a second. Salesforce used to take really big gambles in the early days way way back before they owned Slack. If you aren't familiar with their OG marketing, check out some of their early blog posts around how they built marketshare. One
