Subscription businesses are a cheat code in ecom. So it pains me greatly that so many founders still get them all wrong and wonder why they can’t scale. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard “we need to be at a 5x minimum in-platform” and then been stared at blankly when we ask for the commercial data to verify that. Don’t get me wrong, first order profitability is the GOAT. But if you’re a new brand entering a saturated sector with a limited spend, you’re asking Meta to win a Grand Prix with a Fiat Punto. Do you know when you have to be first order profitable on a subscription business?

The results are in from my VAT investigation. 7 months. 3 case handlers. 1000+ documents. Countless hours fielding daft questions.
