The roast
Alyona claims her mission is to make finance sexy, which is a bold pivot for someone whose business model is just charging startups a premium to look at their own spreadsheets. Between the wakesurfing and the open-water swimming, it’s clear she’ll do anything to avoid being in an office.
About Alyona
I never planned to become a founder. I spent most of my life as a CFO — building models, analyzing numbers, and helping businesses grow. I loved it. Still do. But in 2019, something shifted. I built a simple Google Sheets MVP to help my first customer (Petcube, YC’18) understand their finances better. Five months later, they were profitable. A year later, that client became my co-founder. That’s how Fuel started. Today, Fuel is a financial management platform paired with a real CFO. We manage over $500M in customer P&Ls. We’ve grown from a no-code MVP to a full web platform used by hundreds of businesses. Along the way: → Partnered with HubSpot, Carta and Brex → Helped 100+ agencies and SMBs become profitable: Petcube, ColdIQ, Oceans, Hampton & more Outside of Fuel, I’m: → A cross-continental swimmer (4.04 miles from Europe to Asia in open water) → Dog mom to Haku, my husky (and Fuel’s unofficial Chief Food Officer) → Into skateboarding, wakesurfing, snowboarding (anything that reminds me to feel fear and move through it) → Exploring longevity — 1.5 years alcohol-free, lifting weights, and learning to cook for myself My mission is simple: make finance easy (and sexy) for founders. If you wanna have a founder-to-founder chat, shoot me a DM.

I built a Claude skill that lets you simulate your company's cash on a playground. Every CEO asks the same question, usually right before a board meeting: "what happens to our cash if we..." Cut this. Add two hires. Raise in July instead of September. And then they ask you. So you crack open the master model, spend half a day making a version safe to hand over, and pray nobody breaks a formula. A playground ends that. It's a flight simulator for your cash. The CEO plays with the numbers at 2am and your real model is never touched. Here's how the skill works: You hand Claude your numbers

The hardest sentence from a founder: no product-market fit. The second hardest: we're pivoting. Today I'm saying both. I've never said that out loud before. And I've decided to share our pivot live - all the ups and downs, for the first time. This summer will be hot for me and for Fuel. Six years ago I started Fuelfinance to automate what a CFO does. For most of those six years, we couldn't. In September 2025 we added the first AI features to our product - an AI CFO copilot, then MCP on top of our FP&A platform. Lots of demos, great feedback from customers. But you can feel when it's produc

Every CFO I've talked to in the last 6 months asks me some version of the same question: "Why can't AI just talk to my financial data directly?" It can. If you're on Fuelfinance, it already does. And now Spendesk data joins the conversation too. Our partners just shipped AI Connect MCP, and I love seeing spend data become context instead of another export.
