The roast
Michelle calls herself a storyteller, yet the only narrative she’s successfully crafted is the mystery of how a Chief Marketing Officer at a software firm manages to bore 7,000 people into an engagement rate lower than a 401k’s annual return. She’s the corporate equivalent of elevator music.
About Michelle
I believe you should approach every opportunity with purpose and passion. As an accomplished Chief Marketing Officer, I've successfully led transformations and built high-performance marketing organizations from the ground up, as well as reinvigorated stagnant ones. I've been the steadfast voice — the champion — of the customer, representing them across every facet of the business. I've served as the shepherd and the steward of some iconic brands, building engaging narratives that engage, educate, and influence behavior. I am a strong data-driven marketer, focused on building programs that deliver the desired outcomes. And, I've had the privilege of leading my company's Corporate Social Responsibility program, which is built under the premise of keeping your purpose close to your product. I've been fortunate to build a career that has spanned decades and still allows me to learn something new every day. I've worked for small PE-backed firms and also large, multinational publicly traded companies. Most recently, I played a pivotal role, working with a new Leadership Team and Board of Directors, as my company re-entered the public markets via a de-SPAC transaction, a strategic merger, and multiple acquisitions. I have deep knowledge of and experience in digital transformation — and am well-versed in how quickly it accelerated during the global pandemic. But, I believe my greatest achievements are those that aren't measured by growth in revenue and profits (although I've been quite successful on that front), but rather in the people I've had the good fortune to nurture and develop. I’m extremely proud to have actively mentored and sponsored leaders of the future — especially those from underrepresented communities. What do Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, KitKats, and AI have in common? Marcin Skucz, apparently. Somehow our Carpool Cannes Conversation went from Deloitte Digital's "moments that linger” to attention, authenticity, taste, and whether the original KitKat is still the best KitKat. For the record, it is. Marcin said, you can rent attention, but you can’t really own it. And that feels especially true in an AI era, when making more content is not the hard part. Making something that stays with people is. We also talked about why marketers need to keep taste human because the machine can help us mov

Did you think Carpool Cannes Conversations was over? Au contraire! Kelly Masters kept things going with Preeti Saini and Cajwayne C. from IFS, and the conversation got right to the heart of what it means to get the beige out of marketing: you have to be willing to take the risk and BE BOLD. IFS has done that in a very literal way, earning a Guinness World Records™ title for the longest static indoor billboard at O’Hare at 304 feet. Not subtle, and very much the point. But the bigger idea is that bold brands are willing to show up where attention is actually happening, whether that’s an a

And we are done. Cannes Lions was such a strange and wonderful mix of absolute ridiculousness and very real work. Actual overheard conversation: “Beyoncé was here.” Shows picture. “That’s not Beyoncé. That’s Ciara.” Still. Impressive. And that exchange alone is emblematic of Cannes. But real work gets done here. People come to be inspired by creative work, to celebrate the ideas that actually broke through, and to learn as much as they possibly can from customers, partners, peers, agencies, and yes, even the technology vendors who show up with smoothie bars, branded VWs, mini mics, and very
