The roast
Rebecca manages to be a CMO, Managing Editor, and Lead Photographer, yet the only thing she actually produces is a 40% engagement rate on posts nobody remembers. It takes a special kind of talent to treat a music magazine like a side hustle while you’re busy filing compliance reports for a rheumatology clinic.
About Rebecca
I’m a creative director, photographer, and marketing strategist working at the intersection of music, storytelling, and community building. I’m the Co-Founder, CMO, East Coast Photography Coverage Lead, and Managing Editor of SoundCheck Magazine, a fan-forward and artist-first platform dedicated to uplifting rising musicians, behind-the-scenes creatives, and passionate fan communities. SoundCheck Mag launched in 2025 and has quickly grown into a multi-state team producing interviews, editorial work, concerts, reviews, and original photography for emerging and mid-level artists. We’ve featured talent like Livingston, Mikey Deleasa, Gabi Rose, David Archuleta, and more. Our issues circulate online and in physical print, with growing reach across major music hubs including NYC, LA, Miami, and Philadelphia. As a photographer, I’m known for alternative aesthetics, emotional storytelling, and capturing unique angles that bring fans closer to the artists they love. I’ve shot everything from hometown cover bands to arena-level artists, with my work shared by artists, teams, and fan communities across platforms. Alongside SoundCheck, I work full-time in marketing and compliance at Rheumatology Specialty Center, where I manage social media, strategy, provider campaigns, outreach, branding, collateral, and internal systems. I’m passionate about building processes, improving the user experience, and creating meaningful, on-brand content. At my core, I’m someone who values connection—between artists and fans, teams and creatives, and brands and their communities. I thrive in collaborative spaces and love turning ideas into polished, impactful deliverables. If you’re in the music, media, or creative space, I’d love to connect. I’m always open to partnerships, interviews, photography opportunities, and creative collaboration.

Strong leadership is not built instantly. Neither is trust. I’ve seen leaders become far more effective after failure, public pressure, and difficult decisions. Not because the experience was comfortable. But because it forced discipline, self-awareness, and perspective. The strongest leaders are rarely the ones who have avoided mistakes completely. They are the ones who learned how to respond to pressure without losing clarity. Reputation recovery works the same way. Trust is not rebuilt through one statement, one interview, or one apology. It is rebuilt gradually through consistent b

Nobody tells you what building something from scratch actually feels like. I co-founded SoundCheck Mag a little over a year ago with Laura Jean Portnoy and Ilana B.ornstein. Here are some things I have learned that I wish someone had told me earlier. 1. You will fund it with money you do not really have. There is no investor writing checks at the beginning. There is just you, your co-founders, and a collective decision to bet on something you believe in. I work a full time job. I come home and I work on SoundCheck. That is just the reality and I would not change it. 2. You will care so much

Hi, we're SoundCheck Mag. We're independent, scrappy, and built entirely by three women who are absolutely insane enough to run a music publication on top of their full time jobs. No corporate backing. No investors. Just us, our cameras, our laptops, and a shared Google Drive that has seen things. We are one year in and still standing, which honestly feels like an achievement worth acknowledging. Here's what we want you to know: everyone who joins our team knows exactly what we are and what we are building. We tell them upfront because we respect people too much to do otherwise. Are our rat
