I was talking to a CFO at a regional plumbing and HVAC company last month. I asked how budget season was going. He laughed...not a happy laugh...and said, "Ask me after we've reconciled fifteen branch managers' spreadsheets into something that isn't lying to us." Every branch runs its own version of the same tab. Different technician counts, different job mix, different equipment costs, all formatted just differently enough that nothing rolls up cleanly.
