Most frontline managers don’t lose second-line opportunities because they aren’t ready. They lose them because they don’t know how to prove they’re ready. They hit the number. Build a strong team. Become trusted by reps. But second-line leadership requires a different signal. You have to show you can lead through leaders, build systems, diagnose patterns across teams, and make other managers better.
