The roast
Osman runs a company called UserGuiding, which is impressive considering he’s spent the last 18 months running 3,000 kilometers away from his own engagement rate. He treats his Substack like a diary and his followers like a hostage situation where the only demand is silence.
About Osman
I’m Osman Koc, Co-founder and CEO of UserGuiding, a SaaS platform that helps companies improve product adoption through interactive, no-code onboarding experiences. Before starting UserGuiding, I worked as a venture analyst at Bogazisi University’s angel investment network, reviewing thousands of business plans and interviewing hundreds of founders. Later, I co-founded YNOT Partners, a startup studio that helped entrepreneurs turn early ideas into real products and teams. Beyond building software, I’m driven by curiosity, consistency, and long-term growth, both personal and professional. Here’s what that looks like: · Since 2025, I’ve been a Forbes Technology Council contributor. · I mentor at least two early-stage startups every week. · I write regularly on osmankoc.substack.com and at userguiding.com/blog/author/osman-koc · I co-founded the Turkish Founders Club, connecting Turkish entrepreneurs worldwide 🇹🇷 · I host podcasts in https://turkgibisaas.substack.com/ and https://xyzpodcast.substack.com/ · I’ve run 3,000 + km over the past 18 months - including two full marathons and 50 + halves. · I aim to read 52 books a year (still chasing 40, getting closer). · Some Sundays, I share reflections on what I’m reading here on LinkedIn. · I’m building Quarters Club, a non-profit habit-building initiative that turns focused time into clean-water donations. · I relocated to London in 2023. LinkedIn is my only active social platform. I post here about entrepreneurship, SaaS, first-generation founder life, UX, product, and growth.

For years I had a Google Alert set for every competitor. Every funding round, every feature, every splashy launch landed in my inbox. I told myself I was staying informed. I was actually just scaring myself on a schedule. Each alert triggered the same spiral. They raised money, they shipped a thing, should we be doing that thing too? I deleted the alerts three years ago. That was one of the best thing I did for the company that year. Here is what I realized. Half the launches I was panicking about were dead within a year. The funding rounds I envied often meant the clock had started tickin

A founder asked me recently why I'm still at the same company after 9 years. He was too polite to say the quiet part, but I heard it anyway: what's wrong with you? By the unwritten rules of this industry, I should be on my third startup by now. Or sitting comfortably at some Big Tech job with nice stock. Staying this long reads as a lack of ambition. I almost quit 5 times. Every single time, leaving would have been the better story. The clean restart. The new deck, the new problem, the new version of me. I stayed. Not because staying is noble, but because I kept finding the next hard proble

I love that our team builds things nobody asked us to build. A few months ago Mert made a browser game called Worst Onboarding Ever. Five levels of the worst (but real) onboarding patterns in software. 20K+ people played it. Then some of them started sending us their own onboarding horror stories, unprompted. So he built a sequel out of those stories. One of the five new levels came straight from LinkedIn comments: - a training video that punishes you every time you hit skip (from Denis Acia) His name is in the game now, on the levels they inspired. I keep coming back to how much better t
