The roast
Alvin boasts about building Amazon into a juggernaut as if he personally installed the prime boxes on every porch in Australia. He writes like a Victorian orphan describing his struggle from the supermarket floor to the boardroom, yet his entire personality is just a LinkedIn algorithm glitch that thinks 17% engagement is a career milestone.
About Alvin
I was in retail management, but I knew it was not going to be my forever career. As an immigrant who starts off with nothing but grit, perseverance and a HUGE hope for a better future for our family, I questioned stability vs. growth every step of my career journey. So, when I let go of a dream opportunity to lead a team at a major supermarket, others were surprised. Suffice to say that my early career mentor was disappointed, though I have this conviction that there is more out there. I venture out to hone my skills in relationship management, area sales and stumble onto E-commerce. This was ten years ago! From a young boy to being a part of the Amazon Australia family and build the 3P business into the juggernaut that it is. ___ A little about my management style and approach to success. I’m a people-first sales leader who believes that great results start with strong relationships. Whether it’s supporting a team, working with partners, or engaging customers, I value genuine connection and clear communication. I take pride in creating an environment where everyone feels heard, supported, and empowered to succeed. ___ My focus on process, accountability, and consistent improvement has helped teams achieve ambitious targets and deliver reliable results. I believe that when we manage what we can control, success follows naturally. Looking ahead to 2026, I’m excited to apply my experience in a new direction — exploring opportunities in technology, finance, and payments. I’m passionate about using data, structure, and empathy to help businesses grow and customers feel valued. My goal is to take on a senior commercial or sales leadership role where I can continue to build trust, drive performance, and create meaningful impact.

Swing for the fence they say. A common saying. Not in the field as I see it though. Before you start your week, let me predict something that'll fill your inbox. 1. Urgent, last minute meeting for other division's deadline that has got nothing to do with your team's input. 2. There will be meetings about a meeting where those with inputs are not present. 3. You'll get to go through an internal ways of working discussion over a decision made six months ago. 4. You can't make a decision because there are simply too many "chefs" in the kitchen. If you do NOT have all of the above, congrats

Often, your weakness is your unlock. How many people hires a lazy person? The truth is everyone is lazy. Most of which may not show up at work. Not convinced? How many of you looks forward cleaning your driveway? How about mowing the lawn and snipping the trees? How about putting away the dirty dishes? or the dirty laundry? You get my point. My wise friend said to me that how skilled a person is defined by the domain in which he/she is assessed. You may enjoy working with you colleague, however, you won't stand half an hour living with them. You may love the output he/she produce, but

It's not often that stars aligned. This day six years ago, definitely not a moment I'd expect to change me as a person. Tonight is my 6th year anniversary of being a dad. The rush to the airport. The anticipation of what could be. The middle of hearing my wife in agony. Those were indeed memorable. And, the memory that tops this, the birth of my daughter. 'She has made me a better man' is the biggest understatement of the year then, and now. I knew I wanted to be a dad. No, I must be a dad. Your business needs this level of passion too. There are things that need to go by the wayside
